Folks -- This is Sheila Murray of the up-the-road Murrays -- as fine a person as her mom and dad. Thanks, Sheila. (Um, any extra maple syrup, send it this way.)
Jim -- Uncle Bill calculating estimated distance by gauging wind speed and direction makes me wish he'd been along with us as navigator. We were doing 500 miles most days, sometimes 600. Not sure those underpowered VW buses were designed with that kind of distance in mind. But we made it -- slowly.
Memories made are never lost, even among seemingly-bored kids passing Mount Rushmore. What a great life you and Wink have created for your family and yourselves. New memories still being made. Fred & Wink = Awesome!
I too feel the nostalgic connection to traveling by way of a VW Buss. I fondly recall a summer cross country adventure with aunt Nancy, uncle Bill, Judy, and Annie wwhere we calculated the distance we could make each day using wind direction and speed as a primary factor for e determining attainable emiles. “ Looks like we have a strong headwind today probably will not make 300 miles.” Uncle Bill would calculate. There was no rush and no worries it was just part of the grand adventure. These memories make me smile.
Keep the Sunday morning thoughts coming Fred. They too make me smile.
I could use a Wink editor before I hit send also. Wonder if Eva is interested in the job.

Oh they were! I reminded my dad recently that we were banned as kids to play the popular card game called “War” unless we called it “Peace”. Yeah, we were those kids.
Had to laugh at this one, Dad, because I don't even remember Mount Rushmore (I remember the trip but just not the stopping there). I'm glad you and mom still take your trips. They are so special...
How I love VT! If feeling adventurous again go further North to Hardwick. Memories of that town and the people ( relatives too) sustain me in troubled times ….
Thanks, Fred. Always. (We’re in the Finger Lakes, by the way, and the most arduous thing we’ve dealt with so far has been figuring out how to lock the door to our Airbnb.) Time marches …

...all this and maple sugar donuts, too.
Bob -- If I had to make an exception, it would be you.
Carol -- Marching ok, just not double-time. Safe vacation.
Tough getting over the tummy.
One advantage of adding Trump to Rushmore: It will give a tremendous boost to the sport of graffiti-artist rock climbing.

Where's the LMFAO emoji on this thing?

Everyone needs an editor? No, thanks. I’ve been edited enough for several lifetimes.

You and Wink sound like you were hippies back in the day, any commune stays? Trump on Mount Rushmore would be a travesty!

That's the vision I get, especially when they discuss the VW cross country trip!
The Brunings version of "On the Road"? Great reading.

Love the mention! The year in Vermont still seems like yesterday!
