Invisible Ink
Invisible Ink is the revival of a column that ran for more than 10 years in the Sunday Act 2 section of Newsday, the big Long Island daily. Act 2 was aimed at older readers and, accordingly, The Column sought to combine deep thoughts on achy knees and swollen ankles with a measure of Brooklyn-boy nostalgia, occasional mention of 50s doo-wop favorites (fast, who sang, “In the Still of the Nite?”) and observations on peculiar contemporary phenomena like Pickle Ball, nude dining and the “Golden Bachelor.” Invisible Ink will continue along these lines but hopefully with enough bandwidth to reach those not yet wearing bifocals and knee braces.
Of course, nothing beats reading a story in the newspaper – real ink on real paper – but times change. The Internet is long upon us. Ink and paper are nearly as quaint as secret messages written in lemon juice and decoded over a light bulb. Onward, we go. If you were among the many terrific, loyal-to-the-end Newsday readers who followed The Column, it’s great being in touch again. New arrivals, welcome. Glad you’re in the mix.
