Bases loaded, 2 outs, winning run on third, bottom of the ninth, 2 and 2 count....he has to throw a strike, he can't go to 3 and 2. Ball 3....oh no! 3 and 2? Now He's gotta throw it right down Broadway, he's got no choice! Here comes the pitch...I love the slow, unwinding, thrill of baseball. It's torture, but there's nothing like it
Baseball was always meant to be a slow game. The slowness is the part that keeps you hanging on every pitch, every foul ball, every error. I like that errors are included in the box score. It makes it seem so human. It's a shame what they are doing to baseball now. They aren't boys in a sandlot any more, they're millionaires dressed in knickers
What?! You mean you weren't converted to soccer during 1994 with the last U.S.-based World Cup? (Those were the days when Frank Deford wrote that U.S.A. stood for "Uninterested in Soccer At-all.")
I have several teams to root for this time: U.S., England (my daughter's home now and grandson's birthplace), Scotland (son-in-law's birthplace), Croatia (where the son-in-law inherited a place where his father, a war correspondent for the Guardian, worked during the Bosnian war), even Ghana (where my daughter spent a brief time right after college), and possibly even France (family roots go back only about 7 generations). Hey, unlike Mets fans, I can't lose. (Until Messi leads Argentina to the title).
Most sports are about in the same level/repetitive motion.
I watched my boys play soccer for more years, and I cared to count into college even over to Germany.
I taught tennis and played competitively as a silly adult, logged a lot of golf games as I lived on a golf course in Sherwood Forest,Maryland.
My boys now play pickle ball if you can imagine with their wives sometimes on team.
That’s great this way, what doesn’t kill you, cures you.
Today, one of my granddaughter in-laws is having a piano recital. My father was quite a musician and played everything by ear on the piano.. someone would think that’s a silly past time.
It’s Best we appreciate the fact that there are many diverse ways of enjoying life and hats off to all of them. I guess we’ll have to include sumo wrestling in that as well.! what’s good for the goose isn’t always good for the gander, opposing that saying that many have quoted since our long ago youth.
Enjoy Father’s Day today, dedicated all those special dads such as vous.
Hard to identify with millionaires -- on the field or in front offfice.
Slow, unwinding torture. Like that last leak you fixed, Rich. Nice comment. Thanks/fb
Maybe I need new kids?
Back to you, Jim and Eva.
Good advice, Margo, and, yes, hats off to all -- a Mets cap, in my case.
Ticket prices higher than Knicks. SOMETHING must be going on.

I only watch soccer during the World Cup. It is more than just the game. I love the excitement and how it brings people together.
Togetherness the best part. That, I understand.
❤️😝
Back to you, Jim and Eva.
In Tijuana with Eva watching futbal with a very enthusiastic crowd
Pace yourselves.
Thanks Fred. Happy Father's Day. What a great family you have!
Thanks, Shirl. So how come everything's at our house?

I’m with you, Fred. This phrase from the column sums it up perfectly: “a contest with so much movement and so little payoff.”
